About

My name is Shannon Donohoe and my preferred pronouns are she/her/hers.

I teach 7th and 8th grade Science and Health. I've been here for 11 years. I fell in love with this campus and community when I was a temporary teacher at Chipman in 1999. I returned to teach full time in 2005.

My dad's family has been in the Bay Area for about 120 years, but at 21, he left to move to Georgia and join the NFL. We moved around a lot while I was growing up, and I lived in Colorado for awhile while I went to college there, and picked up skiing. I finally moved back here about 20 years ago. Now, I live and teach in Alameda and my kids go to Alameda schools.

Teaching is my passion, and I feel very fortunate to be able to teach science. I want my students to leave my class with a sense of wonder about how the world and universe work, and the tools and skills to apply that knowledge.

I feel that we have always attracted a staff that puts the best interests of the students first. When we work toward making student equity and learning our common focus, it makes our day to day jobs a lot easier. As a staff, we reflect on our strengths and shortcomings around this focus, but, we are also given the opportunities to grow.
